AI Systems & Infrastructure
@kevin
Mechanical design engineer by day, drawing fabrication packages for industrial pump systems, and building platform software the rest of the time. Ships systems end to end — Nocturn from the data-integrity policy up to the globe, a voice-first personal agent, a mission-planning workstation, a CAD-to-headset bridge — all of it running on infrastructure he owns, and all of it carrying the same rule: never present inference as observation.
- Local-first AI
- Agent systems
- Data provenance
- Geospatial systems
At the lab
- Architect and lead developer of Nocturn, the one system in the lab that is live in production
- Built the TypeScript monorepo behind it in React, Vite, CesiumJS, and deck.gl, fusing eight or more open source feeds onto a photoreal 3D globe: ADS-B aircraft, AISStream maritime, CelesTrak orbital elements, seismic, FIRMS wildfire, GPS jamming inference, FAA airspace closures, and roughly 1,700 public CCTV cameras into one correlated picture
- Wrote the platform's data integrity policy as tested code rather than documentation. Every contact carries source provenance and separate observed and received timestamps, derived positions are labeled and severity capped, and a failed poll writes an explicit OFFLINE row instead of silently retrying, all enforced by 33 test files in a shared contracts package
- Engineered the backend as a NATS JetStream message bus over a DuckDB and Parquet track store and a PostgreSQL and PostGIS intel graph, with a deterministic replay engine that reproduces any historical window frame for frame
- Runs the whole thing on self hosted Proxmox infrastructure with no SaaS dependencies, including a local LLM inference tier for feed verification and analyst summaries at zero recurring API cost
Professional experience
Inside Service and Sales Engineer
Jan 2024 to presentGP Energy Products / FabPro Systems
In practice: design engineering, software development, and IT across four affiliated companies.
- Designed three custom fabricated skids in 2026, producing complete 2D and 3D fabrication packages in Autodesk Inventor. The largest to date is an 18 foot long, 144 inch tall triplex pump system built as three 72 inch bolt together sections, with the pressure relief piping split at the 120 inch line so every section clears doorways and road transport limits
- Engineered a full packaged pump house system against an 80+ line item BOM: Grundfos pump packages with 37 kW VFD panels, air separation, expansion tank, chemical feed, 8 inch butterfly valves, stainless Schedule 10S and 40S piping, ASME B16.5 and B16.9 fittings, enclosure HVAC, and electrical distribution, coordinating procurement and fabrication handoff
- Designed duplex booster skids including a dual Grundfos MVI 30 HP vertical multistage system with 6 inch stainless piping on a welded box tube frame, from pump selection through fabrication drawings
- Built GP-One solo, a production React, Node, and Supabase platform serving all four companies: job tracking, scheduling, evidence tied billing reconciliation, role based access through row level security, Google OAuth with Drive and Sheets integration, and audit trails. It replaced spreadsheet workflows company wide
- Primary escalation engineer for cross company problems that normal channels could not resolve, including rebuilding the field service scheduling system into a waterfall format calendar
- Daily fabrication floor support during skid builds, plus field installation and commissioning of boiler and burner systems under PowerFlame and Cleaver-Brooks manufacturer training
- Evaluated and selected the company's AI development tooling, and automated internal document production with Python and Node.js
VR Development Lead, GreenSTEM Program
Sept 2022 to May 2023Drexel University Co-Op
- Led a multidisciplinary team building an interactive renewable energy virtual laboratory in Unity3D, developing four VR modules on the SteamVR SDK and a virtual broadcasting studio in Unreal Engine 4
- Trained and mentored two developers so the research and the platform kept moving after handoff
