Tactical Planning Workstation

Project name: TACPLAN

01The research goal

Planning tools split the job in half: the map lives in one program and the plan lives in another, and a human carries everything between them. This project puts the analysis on the map itself, the way a planning staff works at a real table.

The audience keeps the work honest: military trainers, tactical teams, search-and-rescue coordinators, and serious simulation designers — people who know what terrain analysis is supposed to contain and will spot unsound output immediately. A tool for them cannot bluff.

02How it works

The planner works on an interactive satellite map. Specialist agents each own a stage of the staff process — one reads terrain, one assesses threats, one develops courses of action, one drafts the order — and each renders structured output onto the map rather than into a chat window.

It runs locally, on the planner's own machine. Nothing about a training scenario or an operation leaves the room.

What the lab built

  • The staff-section model: specialist planning agents in place of one general-purpose assistant
  • Structured planning output rendered onto the map, not into a transcript
  • Local-first from the start, because plans are nobody else's business
